SCAD AnimationFest is poised to make its return for its yearly three-day event in Atlanta, scheduled for September 25-27, under the auspices of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). This year’s festival will pay tribute to Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, the creators behind Disney’s beloved series “Phineas and Ferb,” alongside Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, directors of the Netflix sensation “KPop Demon Hunters.” Attendees can look forward to exclusive premieres, including a sneak peek screening of “The Mighty Nein,” and discussions featuring industry experts from Netflix, Disney, Crunchyroll, Warner Bros. Animation, and SCAD scholars.

SCAD President Paula Wallace conveyed her enthusiasm for the return of the festival, noting the fusion of nostalgia with modern animation trends. The event offers SCAD students a chance to connect with industry veterans and display their creations, such as the SCAD Student Spotlight films “Inkwashed” and “Blood and Bamboo.”

The festival will commence with a panel showcasing Disney alums and a behind-the-scenes glimpse presented by Ozlem Akturk on “The Tiny Chef Show.” A key moment of the event will be the SCAD AnimationFest Legends in Animation Award presentation, honoring Povenmire and Marsh, followed by a screening and dialogue regarding “The Mighty Nein.”

The festival will progress with screenings and panels, featuring Warner Bros. Animation’s “Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires” and a special showing of “KPop Demon Hunters,” culminating in a K-pop concert experience. Director Chris Appelhans will be awarded the SCAD AnimationFest Impact Award and engage in a Q&A session.

SCADFILM director Molie Brock highlighted the festival’s significance in offering students pragmatic insights and career pathways. For additional information on passes and the festival itinerary, please visit the official SCAD AnimationFest website.

Yuji Horii Talks About the Choice to Remake Dragon Quest VII Prior to IV-VI
Yuji Horii Talks About the Choice to Remake Dragon Quest VII Prior to IV-VI
6:23 am

The Dragon Quest franchise, a cherished mainstay within the RPG category, is presently witnessing a wave of remakes, with four distinct remakes surfacing in just a year and a half. This encompasses the HD-2D remakes of the initial three titles and the recently announced “Dragon Quest 7: Reimagined.” This pattern indicates that Square Enix may be looking to refresh the whole series, although it seems they are undertaking this in a non-chronological sequence.

The series’ creator Yuji Horii discussed this during a YouTube stream, according to RPG Site. When questioned about the leap to Dragon Quest VII instead of remaking IV, V, and VI, Horii stated that the choice was made randomly. His co-host, Kazuhiko “Masharito” Torishima, expressed surprise at this answer, noting that it does not imply that the other titles are not being remade. Horii’s remarks suggested that additional remakes might be in the pipeline, which aligns with Square Enix’s recent trend of revitalizing classic games like Final Fantasy 7 and Romancing Saga 2.

Horii also highlighted the ambition to make these titles accessible on modern systems, indicating that the remakes strive for a cohesive experience across current gaming platforms. This approach could be especially advantageous for Dragon Quest, considering its fragmented history across numerous past platforms. Nevertheless, fans will have to await official announcements to verify the full scope of these intentions.

“Dragon Quest 7: Reimagined” is scheduled to be released on February 5, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 1&2, and PC, signifying the next phase in this ambitious remake endeavor.

This forthcoming film is set to adapt the Shibuya Incident Arc, acting as a vital narrative bridge that primes viewers for the eagerly anticipated season 3.

Anime films have been making a significant impact at the box office, with recent hits like *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle*. Following this pattern, *JUJUTSU KAISEN* is ready to enchant audiences with *Execution*, a film crafted to seamlessly tie the narrative between two seasons, in a manner similar to its genre contemporaries. The freshly launched trailer is now accessible for fans to watch online.

In the past, *JUJUTSU KAISEN* revisited its prior seasons with the film *JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie*. Now, the franchise seeks to duplicate that triumph with *Execution*. Significantly, this film will feature the initial two episodes of the highly awaited season 3, offering fans a smooth reentry into the series following the intense finale of season 2. With almost two years since season 2 concluded, *Execution* aims to reignite the enthusiasm among fans.

As per GKIDS, the film’s synopsis indicates that post-Shibuya Incident, “Ten colonies across Japan are turned into havens for curses as part of a scheme orchestrated by Noritoshi Kamo, history’s most malevolent sorcerer. As the lethal Culling Game begins, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is tasked with executing Yuji for his alleged offenses,” setting the groundwork for the circumstances of season 3.

*JUJUTSU KAISEN: Execution* is scheduled to debut in North American theatres nationwide on December 5th. The film will offer fans a look into the happenings of season 3, which is expected to launch in January 2026, shortly following the film’s release.
